How can you get yourself to actually start to make changes? |

Our Thoughts: |

Anthony Robbins says that there are only two reasons that people finally get themselves to make changes they have been thinking about for a while: 1) To increase pleasure, and 2) to avoid pain.
In my experience, getting away from an intolerable situation, or realizing that there would be less pain in making the change than in staying the same, is often the more powerful motivator. Most people who finally reach a truly painful state need little extra encouragement to start taking action. One way to make your current situation seem more painful (or painful enough) is to list all the consequences of remaining in your current state. One woman who couldn’t get herself to lose weight got some leverage on herself by including dying before her grandchildren were born on her ‘consequences of remaining fat’ list.
It’s not enough though to simply move away from something (a situation set of habits, etc.). You must also have a goal to be moving towards, or your efforts will not be effective. But that’s hard for a lot of people. Why? Because we have not trained ourselves to see how things could be; most of us focus so much time and attention on the day-to-day frustrations that we don’t take time to dream of what might be – or to plan to realize the dreams that flit on the outskirts of our usual conscious thoughts.
An important step in getting yourself to make changes is to start thinking that you can have a different life. That any aspect of you life can be changed – and the only thing it depends on is you. The start writing down the way you would like it to be and start focusing on that as you map out a plan to get there. The more you focus on what you want, the easier it will be for you to make the changes to get there.
In Louise L. Hay’s article which follows, she says “You are much more than your mind. You may think that your mind is running the show, but that is only because you have trained your mind to think in this way. You can also untrain and retrain this tool of yours.
Your mind is a tool for you to use in any way you wish. The way you now use your mind is only a habit, and habits, any habits, can be changed if we want to do so, or even if we only know it is possible to do so.

Change starts in your mind, but you are much more than your mind.
Quiet the chatter of your mind for a moment, and really think about this concept: Your mind is a tool you can choose to use any way you wish
